Coal Baron- or Glück Auf in German, after a greeting German miners use when wishing one another luck- has players sending miners underground to dig tunnels and acquire coal, which comes in four levels of quality and is used to fulfill contracts.
The game lasts three rounds, and in each round players take turns placing their workers on action spaces. You can place on a space occupied by another player, but you need to place additional workers in order to do so. Each player has an individual elevator shaft, and will need to use workers to extract coal and bring it to the surface, while also competing for contracts and scrounging for cash in order to do everything else that needs to be done!
This worker-placement game plunges you into the fascinating and complex world of 19th-century mining in northern France. The mechanics have not been altered from the original version and remain as the two authors intended. One of the strengths of this game is that you can outbid your meeples to avoid getting stuck.
There's a real sense of immersion thanks to the game board, which allows you to descend to the bottom of the mine with its mobile lift.

석탄왕: 볼프강 크라머와 미하엘 키슬링의 광산은 여러분의 것입니다!
독일어로는 광부들이 다른 광부에게 행운을 빌 때 쓰는 말인 글뤽 아우프라는 이름이 붙은 석탄왕은, 광부를 지하 광산으로 내려보내 갱도를 파고 석탄을 캐서, 4종류로 구분되는 석탄을 이용해 계약을 달성합니다.
게임은 3라운드에 걸쳐 진행되며, 라운드마다 번갈아 차례를 진행하면서 행동 칸에 일꾼을 놓습니다. 다른 플레이어의 일꾼이 있는 칸에 일꾼을 놓을 수도 있지만, 그러려면 일꾼을 추가로 사용해야 합니다. 각자 승강기를 보유하고 있으며, 일꾼을 사용해 석탄을 채굴하고 시장으로 올려보내면서 계약을 따내고 돈을 얻기 위해 경쟁해야 합니다.
